Fourteen years ago, Madrid-based band The Clams decided to combine power and passion to become, after an extensive tour of theaters, festivals, and concert halls, the female face of Spanish soul. Since its inception, The Clams launched their most personal project, offering a repertoire based on their own songs where soul and Spanish live in complete harmony, seasoned with a few reminders of great figures of soul and blues such as Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Otis Redding, and Aretha Franklin. The seven women who make up The Clams fuse diverse strains of soul and rhythm & blues in a spectacular lineup: the impeccable rhythmic power of Maylin Johoy on drums blends with the depth of Silvia Hernández on bass, which, through the constant sonic exploration of guitarist Henar Lastres and the harmonic passion of keyboardist Laura Nadal, combines with a powerful and playful wind section led by Katia Fernández on tenor saxophone and Almudena Usero on trumpet, who manage to gravitate around the powerful and groundbreaking voice of Marina Blanot.
The diversity of its members and their overflowing soul define their music with a constant stream of sensitivity, energy, and quality. Without a doubt, The Clams is the female face of Spanish soul.
