Ife Ogunjobi is one of the five members of the band Ezra Collective, winner of the 2023 Mercury Prize for their album “Where I’m Meant to Be.”
A London-born musician with Nigerian parents, his music is a fusion of the sounds that surrounded him. Growing up in southeast London, his surroundings have enriched his music with diverse genres such as jazz, Afrobeat, and hip-hop.
Influenced by artists such as Fela Kuti, Erykah Badu, and Roy Hargrove, his musical concept breaks down the barriers between different musical genres and captures his authentic sound. Ife’s debut EP, “Stay True,” released on September 14, 2023, shows him true to his roots and upbringing. He combines influences from Fuji and Afrobeats from his Nigerian heritage with elements of jazz and hip hop that influenced his London upbringing. This vibrant and dynamic EP is all about being unapologetic, through triumphant and uplifting melodies, exhilarating grooves, virtuoso solos, and irresistible rhythms.
A vital contributor to the London scene, Ife, in addition to touring and recording with Ezra Collective, has also performed in sold-out arenas like Madison Square Garden with artists such as Wizkid and Burna Boy. His style is so versatile that he can go from a spiritual jazz solo to an Afrobeat party with danceable beats in an instant. This has also led him to work with numerous artists in the studio, such as Wizkid on his latest album, “More Love, Less Ego,” and Burna Boy on his latest album, “I Told Them,” which reached number one in the UK. Ife has gained recognition thanks to his sold-out headline show at London Omeara as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. He has also performed at packed festivals like Love Supreme and We Out Here 2022, and has been curated by award-winning DJ Giles Peterson for the Appleton Rum Jazz Sessions.
