Joabe is a trombonist, composer, and producer. Considered one of the most important names in Brazilian jazz, this year he will perform at Ronnie Scott (London) and The Town, on the same stage as Jacob Collier, Kamasi Washington, and Snarky Puppy. In 2024, he presented his signature show at Rock in Rio and went on his first European tour. That same year, he released 028, his second album, a tribute to Cachoeiro de Itapemirim (ES), with appearances by Bob Mintzer and Gabriel Grossi. That same year, he toured with trombonist Robin Eubanks, invited Marshall Gilkes for Dejavu Session, and Ed Motta for a show at the Nova Música Convida project at SESC Tijuca. He released his debut album in 2020, Crew in Church, to critical acclaim, featuring Toninho Horta, Nelson Ayres, and New York-based trombonist Elliot Mason, a member of the Lincoln Center Orchestra, conducted by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Joabe pays tribute to jazz, highly influenced by Hip-Hop, Neo Soul, Funk, and Pop. JR has stood out in the national jazz scene and in recent months has performed at major festivals in Brazil such as the Rio das Ostras Festival, Fest Bossa e Jazz (Pipa), SESC Instrumental Brasil, Festival de Jazz – Guaramiranga, Bourbon Jazz Festival Paraty, Festival Marien Calixte, Marabá Jazz Fest, Sagá Jazz, and many others. Joabe released Homem Pássaro with Paula Lima and I Just Wanna Breathe with Síntese. He was invited by Toninho Horta to perform a tribute show to Raul de Souza, and also by singer Macy Gray to accompany her on her tour of Brazil, with four sold-out shows at Blue Note SP and Rock in Rio.
